When I chose to leave Islam and follow Christ, I went through a series of rapid transformations. The most obvious was my sudden ability to quit smoking and vaping with what felt like minimal effort — a habit I had tried, and repeatedly failed, to break since my mid‑twenties.

Like many new believers, I expected clarity, confidence and joy to follow as my eagerness to learn grew. Yet becoming a Christian — though the most profound transformation a person can experience — can also be deeply challenging. It came at a cost, as I wrestled with doubts, old habits and the weight of seeing the world through an entirely new lens.

As my convictions deepened, my sense of isolation deepened with them. I no longer fitted in at work as I once had, and I often struggled to relate to my non‑Christian friends, many of whom understandably held the same negative view of Christianity that I once had. I even felt distant from fellow believers who had known Christ all their lives. Their confidence made me feel less deserving because of my background. In that loneliness, I immersed myself in online teachings about the Trinity, difficult passages of Scripture and end‑times prophecy. Looking back, I can see that not everything I consumed strengthened my understanding in a healthy way. Even so, God used that season to teach me discernment — a lesson I am still learning today.

Building My Faith on Scripture
